It was a stellar week-end. Friday - date night, great night, steak night with the husband. We watched DVR'd shows and relaxed. Always the highlight of every week-end.
Saturday we played with Kiks and Jim in 'Barry and Brian's Brutalization Season Closer' at Sutton Creek. We played the course backwards. It was so cool to really have to 'think' and consider each shot. The tee boxes were in sand traps, on hills, behind trees, and sometimes completely blind. From #2 green we had to hit over golfers on #8 green, and between golfers on #7 green and others teeing off the on #7 to #6 green hole. Complicated! Scary! Awesome!
The pin placements were HARD! 2 greens were tee boxes (putting through fur) and on #7 the best bet was to putt past the hole and let it (hopefully) roll back in (which we did!). So cool. They gave us chili and Sambucca on the turn and had an fantastic buffet set out for us after. What a freakin' fun day - that is why I love Sutton Creek!
Kiks teeing off on the 10th fairway heading for the 18th green. Weird!
William from the 10th fairway to the 18th green.
Jim hitting from a crazy tee box.
Teeing off from the sand.
The keeper of the Sambucca.
Smallest! Furriest! Green! Ever! - Normally the #12 ladies tee box.
On Sunday Billy went golfing with a couple of guys - the weather was too nice to resist - I stayed at home and helped out my mom with a few things, watched some football and ventured over to MomG's for dinner.
Great week-end.
Mellow - that was our week-end in a word.
We finally watched all the Heroes episodes we had on the DVR, a movie and some other shows. We lounged about and watched football, went to MomG's for Thanksgiving dinner (it was awesome), I read a book, started another and took the pooch for a nice walk at the 'secret park' in Cottam (about 2 minutes away from our house).
I have been to the 'secret park' (aka: Cottam Rotary Tot Park) a couple dozen times, and I've only seen other people there 4 times. It's such a gem, although the best part (aside from the lack of people) is not the park itself, it's the attached field and woods nearby - especially in the fall... it's quite pretty.
Here's the park...
So if you go there, don't get mad if you see my dog off leash...
Now football: We went to MomG's early as Billy noted that Global (Canadian channel, which we don't get with our US satellite) tends to show all Buffalo games... and oh yes! The BROWNS were on! Cleveland won. Wow - I'm so happy about that. Whew! I would hate to see them winless playing the Lions at Ford Field. Their schedule is pretty tough (save Lion's - we'll see in week 11) for the rest of the season...
There were a couple of victories that I did not see coming: The Benglas beating Baltimore - huh? I don't like Baltimore, but I really don't like Cincinasty, so that one hurt. The Suckhawks decimated Jacksonville and Denver beat the Patriots. 'Oh, Denver is so awesome, Denver is the best' WHATEVER! I don't see it! They beat Cinci (who I thought sucked btw), Oakland (who does suck), Cleveland (no comment), Dallas (apparently suck despite Romo and fancy stadium), and Arizona (that was the first week, and hardly counts), and on Sunday they beat the Pats (now I understand the 'Boston' thing), in overtime I should mention - hardly a blowout. Anyways - the point is, I don't like them, and they bother me.
I saw the first half of the Jets - Fins game, and I'm so happy that Miami won. Gruden was creepy (as per usual), and they couldn't get enough of talking about Braylon Edwards. UGH! Well good for you Braylon, you actually caught a ball... maybe if you did that in Cleveland you wouldn't have felt 'on the outs'. Remember 2007? When you were able to catch a ball? and the fine fans of the Browns loved you? Well, good luck in NYJ... if you drop for them, there will be no forgiveness, and you will be run out of the city and the sport, so put that under your pillow.
Wow, it's early for LG to get so riled...
Anyways, this week should be, well, mellow. Not too much going on - life is good.
It's been a little busy here lately...
Thursday:
I attended the General Meeting at Sutton Creek. Very informative. There are some great people at SC, and I had some good laughs (Marcello is convinced if they bring back the players that have passed away play time will increase dramatically... the goal should be living people joining the membership - brilliant).
Friday:
I didn't feel too hot after consuming one too many glasses of vino at the meeting, but was able to get the house sort of cleaned. Glo ball, which is my favorite golfing event of the year, was Friday night, and I spent the afternoon in bed with a migraine. Rats. Ah well.
Saturday:
Sunday Open On A Saturday - it was a good format pairing A and D players in a scramble format combining the scores of the B and C players, also playing a scramble. We came in fourth, and I won closest to the pin on #13 (amazing as I rarely hit that green - it was against the wind, so I had to use my driver to reach the back of the green - about 160 yards... that's pathetic, but oh well...). It was most fun.
Later that afternoon Kiks and Jim came over for a prime rib dinner, and were joined by a couple of guys from SC. Around 10pm the big event started - M vs. N - a Wii tennis battle for the ages. Nick tried to psych Billy out by wearing a Marino jersey, but Billy replied with his own jersey and hat. Nick won, but somehow the trophy is on our mantle - blocking my hole in one ball btw - I get no respect!
Some spectators:
The challenge:
The trophy:
Nick brought over a waitress from SC and her friend and Link. Us girls spent a little time in the hot tub, but it was warm outside, so we thought it wise to play Passout (25th anniversary edition, released in 1986 - meanwhile the two girls were born in 1989... how weird is that?) around 1am, and yes we were successful in making a young girl pass out. It was a proud moment... okay, not really, but fun nonetheless. I have never seen so many drinks spilled in one night. Jim was our booze runner and constantly at the ready with multiple towels. Good times.
Although we didn't get to bed until after 4am, the 'kids' were up around 8am looking for coffee, and William pulled himself from the comfort of our bed to comply (we grind - they would never have had success). I was feeling less than 100%, and spent most of the day in bed - Billy cleaned the house, thank God. I missed dinner at MomG's, but did a few things around the house, and watched a little football and some DVR'd shows.
Lessons:
- Don't drink so much
- Get some sleep
- Enjoy every sweet minute of life
In my conscious attempt to soak up the remainder of the summer - I did my best to have a great week-end. I believe that I succeeded.
- Barbecued steaks with the husband and had a few drinks on the deck.
- Played golf in a SC event. The format was really fun. It was a four person team scramble, but when our team scored a birdie we had to move back a tee. Let me tell you - SC is a different course from the whites! I kept thinking that my drives were really short - then I realized that I was back a good 50 yards from my normal tee shot. We had drinks outside with friends and all in all it was a great day. ---Quite significant as well is The Jude (after she gave me half of her breakfast sandwich, as I was trying to rid myself of a hangover...) asked me to go with her to the Cleveland at Lion's game in November! Hells yeah! I can't imagine the fun we're going to have!---
- Went in the pool and lounged in the sun.
- Attended a 'cultural' event. I ventured out to Amherstburg and watched a heritage committee re-enact of slaves escaping to freedom. It was very cool, historically accurate and moving. A boat was paddled from just north of Boblo Island and landed at Elliot's Point, just south of the old mainland Boblo dock - an area referred to in the book, 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'. There were a group of period dressed people singing, waving and welcoming the newly escaped slaves. They were then welcomed by a period actress dressed as a local lady who was known to have helped many former slaves settle in Ontario. Very cool.
This guy was looking right at me - and it choked me up! People we yelling, 'thank Jesus!' and 'welcome home'. etc...
It was a hot, steamy week-end which we ended with ribs at MomG's house. Watched a little golf and watched a little football. This week-end we're skipping town and camping in Goderich. Can't wait!
My my, life is goooooooood.
A List Of Random Things About Today
- Currently 94% humidity, and it's only 8 am.
- Predicted high of 95* with humidity it may feel like 113*
- MomG is coming over for dinner
- I hope Billy decides against making spaghetti or lasagna due to the super hot weather
- Going to clean my mom's pool and play with her dogs.
- Hall of Fame game is on tonight
- Football (pre)season begins
- I bet the Dairy Freez will be packed today
End of list.
The week-end felt a bit 'off'. I had a blast Saturday golfing with some girls, and had fun hanging out at SC for a couple of drinks afterward. I totally forgot my clubs there! Duh! Billy and I had great night steak night date night and of course it was awesome.
On Sunday William worked and I wandered about the house - nothing to clean (okay, I could have done the car or kitchen cabinets), no pooch following me around, and nothing to do. I started reading a book that I thought I already read - but didn't, and so far so good. We had dinner at MomG's, and it was an early night for me.
I was at the house in Windsor for a bit this morning and it doesn't look like I did anything! ARG! I was there for hours and despite my efforts I see no progress! Very frustrating! I did take a load to the recycle place, and it was packed! Good responsible Kingsville - itans, or ites or whatever - we are.
I called several businesses today inquiring about sponsorship for our 18 hole tournament. I hate doing that. So annoying! It's one of the (many) things I hated about real estate. I feel like I'm begging. Ah well. Many the businesses on the list from 2 years ago aren't cuttin' it this year - 1 has closed, and we no longer deal with 3 others. I'm not calling the fancy schmancy dress shop which I have never been in, nor could afford to purchase anything... I'll hand that one off to someone else. Also I'm simply not calling another golf course to ask to sponsor us. That's just weird. I could see the indoor place, but not another course that is 8 minutes away... Along with those I have approached 9 others on my own. For sure I have 3 donations, possibly 5 altogether. I guess that makes up for the deficiencies on the list I was given.
This tournament is really wearing on me. I can't wait until July 29th (okay, really I can, there's a lot of great things to happen between now and then, obviously, but you know what I mean!). I constantly feel like I'm hassling people (to play, to donate, to help out) and I have lists written down of things to do, people to talk to, things to order, and a ever flowing list in my head of things to add to my lists. Super. When this is done I'm going to feel like a whole new woman!
It's only Monday, I don't 'work' and I'm already looking forward to the week-end!
Yesterday everything went as planned... Billy was actually home from work hours earlier than expected as some part was the wrong size. I nodded and pretended I knew WTH he was talking about, but I was just happy to see him... It all worked out.
We had an amazing steak (Schinkels' rocks), I had a bottle of Erie Shore Summer Sun before dinner - perfect for a hot summery day, and Concha y Toro Cab Sav with the steak - it was good, but a bit big and jammy for me... We watched a couple 'Prison Break' episodes, and they were 'okay'. I could do without that show.
All in all it was a fab night.
Today should prove to be quite awesome. I think Billy and I are going to take care of business a bit around here... I want to get that mulch down that Billy raked from the front yard, and I think William may cut the grass. I would love to find some more flowers (a lot of things are on sale now...) and we're almost out of CoffeeMate - so I may have to run into town.
We are golfing today with Revenue Canada John and his Revenue Canada wife. Should be fun!
Here are some pics from the yard from a couple of weeks ago which I forgot to post...
Life's good...
As per usual: we had a great week-end.
There are not too many weeks that pass when I don't have a wonderful week-end... and this was no exception.
We headed to Goderich early Friday afternoon. The campground was fairly empty. The weather was a little on the cool side. It was actually a perfect week-end for camping.
We had great campfires Friday and Saturday, and on Saturday we watched game 5 outside as we brought a TV - normally we are not that type of camper, but obviously we had to watch the game. I'll never forget sitting by a fire watching the Wings win.
On Saturday we walked in the Maitland for about half an hour, but it was too cold outside and the water was deep, fast and chilly. We instead walked throughout the town of Goderich, over the bridge and down the path for about 3 hours. Awesome.
At Point Farms we spent a little time on the beach and walked the entire park.
On Sunday we ventured to Grand Bend - again walking the beach and the main drag with the pooch. We had a couple of beers at an outside patio. GB was really quiet - nice actually. We saw a guy on a unicycle almost get hit by a car. Only in GB... Of course the drive in is always a highlight - but - DO NOT SEE LAND OF THE LOST! It sucks beyond belief!
All in all, the week-end went by way too fast. We hope to go camping again in the summer. Hopefully it will be nice and hot and we can enjoy the Maitland and the beach more...
Yesterday I busted out the weed whacker, and today I can barely straighten my right arm. This happens every year. Hopefully I get used to it before I head to Tennessee, as there is a ton of whacking to be done there, and sore arms conflict with good golfing.
The yard is looking really good - even without the traditional 'weed & feed'. It's great to ban pesticides and herbicides, but it's bad if you hate dandelions.
Yesterday's deep thought (which I had when pulling weeds)....
Weeds are simply under - appreciated plants which grow in inconvenient areas.

I'm pretty happy with the Browns draft choices - I've never watched the draft before and it was really exciting. I seriously thought there was a chance the Browns could have picked up Aaron Curry as the Chiefs picked Jackson 3rd overall, but of course he was scooped up by Seattle. Rats. I think he is going to be the player to watch this year.
I think the trade with the Jets was brilliant. Mangini had a relationship with them, and must know that they have something to offer. Very exciting stuff. I like Alex Mack, the new center (see - I conform and spell it the US way, although it pains me...) He was a 3 year starter with a good academic and football record. Smarts count.
William says that we can go to the Lions v Browns game in the D and also a Browns game in Cleveland. Yeah! I've never been to Ford Field - Billy says it's a bit sterile compared to other stadiums he's been.
What game to see, what game to see...
Matt Stafford, hmm, hopefully not a Harrington repeat...
Mark Sanchez is HOT. GggggRrrrrr

I'm finishing Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. I read it a few years ago and liked it. I hope to see the movie and that's the reason for the re-read. This is probably the least overly dramatic of the Dan Brown novels, in my opinion... he often ends or begins a chapter with something like, '.... and never before in the history of mankind has anyone ever laid eyes on anything like this ever!' ... How can you put that book down when possibly around the corner is an Earth Shattering KaBoom like never seen nor heard?
This book is much less 'alarmist'... anyway, you get my point.
I do hope to read something a little more significant soon. I've read some pretty fluffy novels lately and I am ready for something 'heavier'.

It's going to be another relaxing day around here (as was last night - the steak was awesome! - oh and on sale for $9.99/lbs at Schinkels - we watched some shows and relaxed in the hot tub). I may venture into the city to look into framing some maps we purchased on our cruise. I may return dozens of booze bottles to the Beer Store (it's starting to appear that we have a problem...) I may purchase Windex, Scrub Free, and rinse aid - or enviromentally friendly versions of them... I may just lay on the couch, read and watch the draft. I don't think I'll be golfing today - darned weed whack syndrome!
Why, at the age of 35 am I dreaming of being in high school? I was lost, had only been to math class once, didn't even realize that I had a history class, am older than everyone else, can't find my schedule and borrowed someone's Blackberry (because they downloaded my class schedule on it) and forgot to return it. When I found my class schedule (written out multiple times so I wouldn't forget...) it had cute stickers all over it, and even stickers with the images of my teachers on them. Huh? Why?
I have dreamed in the past, many times, of being in University, and freaking out before the final exam because I had not been to the class once, and neglected to even purchase the text book. Why? I wonder what is missing in my life, what do I feel I haven't completed that I have these dreams... Well, it's better than my reoccurring nasty bathroom dreams...

The week-end was really good. Kiks and I golfed 18 holes, then her family popped by the course to eat. I had a few drinks and went home to William for steak dinner. Unfortunately the lack of food intake and the surplus of cocktails consumed caught up with me, and I ended the night early with guilt. Arg.
Sunday was possibly the laziest day in the history of lazy days. I watched TV in bed, put pictures in a photo album and we went to MomG's for burgers.
____________
The weather is terrible and I'm going to catch up on things around here. We're still a little unorganized from our vacation and I have a few projects to tackle.
