It was a great day! Kiks and I met at the golf course and the 4 boys played in front of us. We hooked up with Black Bob and he is seriously a great guy. I was playing 'okay' with the back start, and on 18 I was about 60 yards away and rolled it in for an eagle. Woo hoo - second this year. I played poopy on the front, the excessive amount of alcohol consumed was probably not helping - that usually doesn't hurt me, but that's my excuse... (although I hit the pin on #8, and it almost went in for a hole in one - close doesn't count!) and ended up shooting close to my handicap - it could have been better, but I took a 9 on the last hole. Rats.
Thank God I remembered how to golf - I'm playing in a scramble tournament in Sarnia tomorrow (serious stuff with min and max handicaps...)
Kiks and I then ventured to Lilly Kazilly's and had a fab dinner outside overlooking the marina and Peche Island. Fan freaking tastic I must say - then back to Jim and Kiks house to meet up with Billy, my brother and his girlfriend where we had drinks in their gorgeous back yard overlooking the pool and the Windsor Mountain.
It really felt like a perfect summer day, but in September.
Today I'm finishing up cleaning the house, maybe clean the car, work on some year end golf stuff, and prepare the captain for next year. I should schedule some time today to lay in the sun. Tonight - great night, date night, steak night with the husband. Awesome.
Life is good.
- Oh, and espn.com changed their pick and predictions board, so it now looks like none of the games have been played... but I know better... Go Browns!

Thank you, thank you very much.
In my recent and very conscious effort to soak up every last bit of summer, I have been reflective on what I've done so far...
- Went camping
- Attended a pool party
- Lounged by and swam in the pool
- Grew food in the garden
- Hung clothes outside to dry
- Worked in the yard
- Went for a walk just to see the night sky
- Went parking (haha, no, seriously though... I'll spare you the details)
- Watched lightning bugs and bats at night
- Golfed with friends and husband, had the best round of my life this year...
- Played on the beach
- Went for a walk in the woods and on nature paths
- Ate, drank, played cards and watched TV (only because it was a Red Wings play-off game) outside
- Barbecued every week
- Watched shooting stars or meteorites (I really can't tell the difference)
- Played fetch with the dogs, took the pooch for many walks
- Drank water from a hose (not the rain barrel hose - eww)
- Watched the frogs in the pond, although I'm sure they hate me
- Been sunburned, but not too badly
- Been so hot that I had to jump in the pool
- Drank 'Summer Sun' by Erie Shore (okay, several bottles...)
- Played in a golf tournament (where have you been?)
- Attended a outdoor cultural event
- Haven't worn 'shoes' since about May, just sandals or heels
- Enjoyed the smell of freshly cut grass
- Walked in a warm rain (okay, I was golfing, but still)
- Truly enjoyed every minute of a 90*+ day
- Read a book outside (more than one)
- Walked through a lazy river
- Went to the drive in
- Ate ice cream (I still think about how good black cherry ice cream is... mmm)
I have not yet, taken the pooch to the beach (aside from camping, or Point Pelee with MomG), played catch (although I hope to become good at throwing a football), ran through a sprinkler (I have been caught in one a few times, though - not the same). I haven't rode my bike (flat tires, lazy) or kayaked at Point Pelee - I really want to do that one summer.)
Life's good, isn't it?
I guess I should have prefaced yesterday's post by saying that nothing specific of a rude nature happened to inspire such a crusty post. I was just working with the scorecards and realized that once those cards are left on the table, they are never considered again - except by me.
Ah well.
Also, I should simply tell the 'powers that be' that certain jobs are not in the realm of score keeping... but again it comes down to: at least I know it's done and done right, it saves someone else the hassle (they probably have a truly busy life), and I can handle it if someone questions what I've done.
I am planning on passing over the ringer board. That will save me about an hour of transferring and adding the numbers to a clean board.
This week-end is going to be great! Steak dinner and watch some DVR'd shows on Friday, then the Club Championship all week-end. I could go on and on about that, but not today. The weather will be fantastic, the company good, and life in general is wonderful.
Today we're heading to Goderich camping - kind of a last minute things as I believe that William has a hefty work load that will take him well into the fall... rats. If this little trip was better planned, we should have made a reservation at the Pinery in Grand Bend, as William played in a tourney yesterday at Witter Station, located about half and hour south of GB... so essentially he had to drive yesterday to almost where we're staying tonight...Hmm... oh well...
The summer's end is screaming toward us and I'm facing it head on! I'm still soaking it up every chance I get - but we're missing a couple of things this week-end: a girls' party tonight, a wedding tomorrow, and a funeral (well I can't say that I'm going to sad not to go, but if we were in town I certainly would).
Yesterday I was busy taking care of business and getting ready for camping (which is quite easy now as the trailer is well stocked)...
Places I went yesterday and things I did:
- lounged by the pool. I spent just enough time to get hot, take a dip, then immediately get cloudy, windy and cool... my luck!
- waited for FedEx to arrive with the promise of our BROWNS tickets. I had enough of waiting when I actually read the form and noticed that I didn't have to be home to sign for the package. Great! ... they showed up about 10 minutes later...
- called for a refill of a prescription and discovered that it in fact had no refills
- resigned myself to waiting in a germy clinic for half an hour to get a refill
- called to make a doctors' appointment to obtain said refill, and discovered that they can do it over the phone for $20. Decidedly well worth it, as I the loath the idea of my healthy body seated next to a germ infested sick person. Yay!
- Liquor store for items pertaining to camping
- Pharmacy
- Dropped off recyclable printer ink cartridges, (from my anti-hoarding bender the other day)
- Canadian Tire (do you know that if you type Can into the Google search page, the first suggestion is Canadian Tire? I thought that was pretty funny) to purchase a brake light cover that we noticed was missing the other day for the pop-up They didn't have any and directed me to:
- TSC to purchase a brake light cover for the pop up trailer, they didn't have any and directed me to:
- Vehicle Venture to purchase a brake light cover for the pop up trailer, they didn't have any and directed me to:
- Sunparlor Trailers where I was delighted to purchase a brake light cover for the pop up trailer.
- Foodland for food related items pertaining to camping
- I was invited to dinner with some golfing couples (although I was solo as William was in Thedford - remember?) but by the time I got home from driving all over the darned county for the brake light cover - it was too late. Rats!
- I had soup for dinner, packed for camping, made a list and checked it thrice, and attempted to finish 'The Tale of Two Cities' (which initially I thought was a suckfest on paper, but I'm coming around now), a goal which I gave up on when I realized that the Real Housewives of Atlanta was on... Hmmm.... how can Dickens compete with petty rich bitches? He can't!
It was a very productive day and I'm super pumped about this week-end. I hope the weather is a bit warmer than predicted though... tip toe tip toe here I go!
Of course, this summer is FLYING by. The weather hasn't helped much, as it's been on the cool side... I think we've only had a few days in the 90*'s - I remember one year not too long ago, we had a stretch of 20+ days over 90*. That felt like summer, and I remember wanting for fall.
Ways I'm going to soak up and enjoy what is left of the summer
- spend time in the garden and doing yard work. Often by mid-August I'm so weary of the heat I tend to neglect our yard. Not this year! I'm going to get out there and enjoy it.
- take time to hang out by the pool. I'm going to make an effort to spend more time reading in the sun, playing with the dogs (not mine though,) and the neighborhood kids (aka nieces and nephews).
- going camping. We're camping next week-end. It's pretty much Billy's last opportunity for a few days off he has until the late fall. Nothing feels more like summer like hanging out at the beach, going for long walks, strolling through a river, having a campfire, eating hot dogs and burgers, sleeping in a camper and drinking coffee in the woods. Can't wait!
- golf as much as possible. It is the thing I pine for the most in the winter months. I want to golf my little heart out over the next couple of months and hopefully that will stave off my want until the spring.
- have cocktails with the husband on the patio or deck on the week-end.
- take pictures of camping, golf, scenery and friends.
Here I go!
-
A list of reasons why yesterday truly felt like a summer day
- It was hot hot hot
- I spent a significant amount of time outside in the heat
- I dipped in the pool multiple times
- We had cold cut sandwiches for dinner
- We sat on the deck and watched the heat lightening
Thank you and good day.
Last night, after a slight change of plans, Billy and I parked ourselves on a rooftop in Windsor to view the fireworks. I'm pretty sure at one time they were the largest display in the world, but now I think they are the largest international display in the world.
There was a huge storm at home and when we left is was 78*F, by the time we got halfway to Windsor the roads were completely dry and the temperature in the city was 92*F! It was hot, breezy, but still damn hot. I really thought attendance looked low, but around 9pm, they really packed into the waterfront.
It was pretty much wall to wall people when the display started.
Always a highlight is the opening, where a helicopter flies by the Windsor and Detroit waterfronts pulling a huge Canadian, then American flag with a spotlight directed at the flag. The crowd goes wild. I was too slow to record the Canadian fly by, but the US one is pretty cool too... a great moment of two countries celebrating together and supporting one another...
It was the best show I've seen. There were some really cool and new fireworks. For those who have never seen a display so large, it's really awesome and even magical...
It was a fantastic night - what a great event for Detroit and Windsor.

I'm so happy to be done with the 9 hole tournament. Perhaps not working makes me more anxious about these events, but everything went really well. The rain stayed away, the lunch and the awarding of prizes went smoothly and in a timely fashion. Everything was good.
This was the first tournament or golf event that I was completely relaxed. Once we had everyone registered, I knew my job was over, so I was able to let loose and have fun.
It was a freakin' hot day and Kiks and I ended up staying the entire day and played another 18 holes (9 with KF), and we had a great time. I nearly fell off the cart laughing. (Kiks scammed us a free cart)
It's summertime and the livin' is good. And hot.
Today? Taking care of business about the house and a little at my sister's (how exactly do weeds continue to grow despite the lack of rain?) some inputing and email of golf scores, and maybe a little pool action. Tonight? Off to MomG's for dinner with her sisters.
Life, my friends, is good.
