What I learned at the elevator convention

- Elevator people drink A LOT

- The guy with the easy laugh and mullet just may be a multimillionaire

- If the hospitality suite is scheduled to be open from 5 pm until 1 am, conventioners will expect it open from 2 pm until 3:30am

- I can make a mean apple martini, dirty martini, dry martini, Cosmo, Caesar, bloody Caesar, and just about every well drink you can think of

- Everyone is nice to the tender of the bar

- Elevators are quite the big deal, and there is serious money to be made in Dubai

- Even the crustiest bastard will come around after 5 days or so

- I learned to carefully read the schedule in case the breakfast will be held in the hospitality suite

- Some mechanics can view the entire convention displays in under 10 minutes

- Everyone remembers the bartender's name

- If you are nice to people, and listen to them, they will talk to you for hours. People like to talk about themselves

- Papa Cheney's has great food, but needs to get their upstairs air conditioning fixed

- The view from the Windsor Hilton may be just about the best thing about Detroit

- Canadians apparently often start reply sentences with the expression 'yeah, no' and are not aware of it, and in fact deny it, until busted

- Balloons are fun at any age

- If your name is Joe Kerr (really) you have to be a nice guy with a good sense of humour

Beat

Yep. I'm beat. Because we changed our plans and decided to skip Grand Bend, golfing at Indian Hills and staying at random motel in Exeter, we are now leaving in a few minutes to go to Billy's aunt and uncles' surprise 50th anniversary party in Port Franks. Rats. It's going to be a long one, not to mention hot. It was a good decision to stick around here, as we played Seven Lakes (for free) and I found and bonded with possibly the funnest person ever. So that's great and all.

This week was one of the craziest ever and we certainly could not have done it without MomG watching and caring for the pooch and my brother taking the pooch last night. Footloose and fancy free we are we are.

I learned many a thing from the elevator convention of which I shall expand on tomorrow. So much fun, so little time.

Suite

Apparently the elevator convention is quite the big deal. The hospitality suite is on the top floor of the Windsor Hilton, and is outfitted with a conference table, a huge seating area, a big flat screen and best of all an amazing view of Detroit. With the Wings game tonight and the possibility of them winning the Stanley Cup, we should be able to see the rioting from the comfort of our suite.

Our room adjoins and is pretty darned nice. King sized bed, a 20 foot long vanity area, jacuzzi tub, enormous shower and loo closet. Oh and the view - awesome.

I am one lucky girl. Last night I played bartender to thirsty conventioners and just when I thought we were wrapping things up (at about 11) approximately 20 people came in. Yikes. I think I made the last cocktail at about 2am.

I slept like shit (I was worried that the alarm wouldn't go off, as Billy had to drive a dozen or so golf clubs to Pointe West) and I'm skipping out of a meeting with CIBC and lunch with our financial adviser, thank God Billy drove me home!

A nice thing is meeting and chatting with a guy and later finding out that he is a multimillionaire. He was less pretentious than the average person. Refreshing.

I need a nap and some hang-over food (from lack of sleep more than alcohol intake). It's going to be a long few days...

Hair

Reading Maura's blog, I realized that I didn't say anything about my hair... I got it cut before we went to TN, and I love it, although it is a bit odd. I have to keep the colour the same, as I don't really want green hair for the duration of the summer.

Here's the idea for my haircut, if only the stylist could redo my face a bit too... I'll let you figure out who in this picture I am imitating,,,

(Mine's shorter and with awesome roots) Anyways, I'm really happy with it, except for the fact that immediately after I wash my hair it's quite fluffy, (I don't like straightening it every time... not good even with protectove goo) and it looks not so great... but all in all, I'm happy with it. When I have it in a pony for golf, it looks like my four year old niece cut it, haha, perfect!

A word about the week-end

Okay, more than 1 word...

Friday I was pretty tired from driving all day... how that tires one out, I'll never know... anyways... we pretty much lounged about, and that was nice.

Saturday Billy skipped golf and we had a bunch of things to do around the house. He washed and waxed both vehicles, while I vacuumed and cleaned the inside of the car, and did laundry.

We ate dinner, packed up some snacks and drinks and yes, went to the drive in in Grand Bend... of course we tossed the futon mattress in the back of the pick-up!

I know, I know, to drive for 2 hours to see 2 movies at a drive in, but we totally love it! It was packed as the movies were Indiana Jones and Iron Man (both were really good, pleasantly surprised by Iron Man's awesomeness...) We guessed that there were well over 1,000 people there, many left after the first movie...

The first movie didn't even start until after 9:30, and the second was done around 2 am I think. We decided to be complete redneck losers and catch some z's on the side of the road somewhere between Arkona and Watford (aka: nowheresville and Home of the Silver Stick...).

The most ridiculous part of the entire adventure was us waking up and wanting to leave, (have to pee!) and discovering that there was a guy reading a paper in a van about 10 feet from us... Oh well, suck up the fact that we're losers... we crawl out of the back just in time to be completely busted by another guy in another van pulling his golf clubs out of the back. He laughed at us. Figuratively, seriously; I was mortified (but only for like 2 seconds... then it was pretty funny...) I know I would laugh pretty hard if I saw two ratty looking people crawling out of the back of a pick-up at 6:30 on a Sunday morning...haha

When we got home, Billy and I pretty much showered and went and golfed 18 holes (golfed okay... I am now sporting a fantastic farmer's tan...) then went to MomG's for prime rib. Delicious, fun times.

So, how many of my friends would sleep in the back of a pick-up on the side of the road? At age 34 3/4? I don't know if any would, so am I super classless? I don't think I care about that anymore. It was fun and one of the best week-ends ever! I love my life!

The who what and wheres

So, Tennessee with Kiks was all in all a great vacation. When we pulled up to the house on Friday afternoon, Kim was amazed at the huge rhododendron in the front yard, while I was more surprised to see a huge tree lying across the driveway, with the electric (not hydro...) and phone lines beneath it. Great. Friday afternoon and no power. Luckily, (if having a huge tree across you driveway has any luck involved...) the Volunteer Electric company had a guy out within about half an hour. He must be the kamikaze tree remover, as he was slinging a chainsaw above his head and ducking quickly away ninja style when the branches would crash down. He was joined by a slight Spanish dude who really wanted to drink warm beer with us (that didn't happen).

So, the whole episode was a deep learning experience, as now when I arrive at the house in TN, I shall forever appreciate A) electricity and B) not having to remove a huge tree and C) being able to easily access the garage. Brilliant!

The A B C's of idiot - city

So, I moved a plant and had tremendous pain the other day, and I decided I would a) keep the appointment with my eye doctor (- I need new specs BTW and I picked out some, - blingy - with help - my pupils are still huge and I can barely read this...) then b) have a visit to my chiropractor.

After moving, stretching, pushing, pulling, cracking, twisting (you get the point) he determined that I sprained the joint between the 4th and 5th vertebrae. Great!

I do feel better knowing what I did. It validates the fact that I'm not insane, and it didn't feel muscular when I did it.

So now I have to: a) relax b) lie down c) not do anything outside a comfortable range of motion, (uh, it even hurts to lie down) and d) come back and see him Friday to see if it's better... I'm sure it will be... it was better this morning, before the stretching, cracking, twisting, etc.... but I know that is a necessary evil. I do enjoy the electronic muscle stimulation, but that's not going to help fix the joint, but strengthen the muscle around it... anyway...

Just in time for golf. Just in time for Spring yard work.

Thank God for a) my husband and b) good coverage!
