Three days since my last post! Where does the time go?

Let's see... Friday I golfed in our Ladies 18 hole league and played like a donkey. Great. Friday night Billy and I were treated to dinner at the Keg by MomG and it was awesome, (hello blue cheese fillet...) except I felt pretty crappy all day long and it resulted in a migraine that I was sort of able to stop before it was too intense. It was weird. It was a sight based migraine, (for those who suffer from migraines you know what I'm talking about) and usually mine are smell or scent related. Strange.

Yesterday was mine and KimF ladies match (or as I learned actually 'medal' play... there is a difference) against two pretty good golfers. One who pretty much had the game of her life yesterday, but luckily for me, so did KimF... she also won her individual ladies match. The only contribution I made was a birdie on #8 for a net 1, and a par on 15 for a net 2. That was pretty sweet. It came down to literally the last putt on the last hole... which I missed, but KF made hers so we won by one stroke with a net 63. That's a damned good score in case you don't know... whew!

It was so much stress, not because I so badly wanted to win, but because I didn't want to let KF down... if we tied and had to go play extra holes, we would have been blown off the course due to weather, then they would use 'retrogression' to determine the winner (best holes starting with the last one played) - we would have then lost the match, as KF and I both sucked a bit on the back! Whew!

Billy was at the club so we had a couple of drinks, went home and participated in Rib Fest 2008 (just ribs for dinner, no sides... I felt like Fred Flintstone...) and watched Narnia (we had never seen it before, and I had just read the first 2 books in the series, and the second movie might be at the drive in this week-end... so...) We started to watch No Country For Old Men... it was disturbing to say the least, I had read Cormac McCarthy's The Road, so I knew this one would be equally warped... but my body said No More with about 20 minutes to go. Billy watched it and this morning asked me to finish watching the rest so I could explain it to him... I was like uh... wah? I hardly knew what was going on! Silly man.

Today is Dian's shower and I'm having a vegetable issue, so I'll be late to help set up. I'm sure there will be enough people, but still... stress! guilt! Arg!

I'm really looking forward to this coming week.... (it helps that today I feel better physically than I have in a week, despite less than 4 hours sleep last night)... I have a 7:07 tee time tomorrow with KF, (play ahead for while we're camping) ladies 9 hole league, camping and all the fun that entails as well as a potential trip to the Bend and the drive in.

If you don't care about local golf, then by all means skip this post...

So, today I played in a 9 hole tournament at Essex. They have hosted mens' senior PGA event as well as an LPGA event, , and is known as the oldest in the area & the most exclusive. It was the last private course in Essex County that I had to play. And I did... very badly...

First of all, it's not a particularly difficult course. It reminds me a lot of Beach Grove or even Roseland. Lots of trees, level fairways, water on 2 out of 9 holes and fast greens. No holes really stood out as beautiful, or particularly challenging. At one time I thought, 'oh, hey a dog leg, that's exciting'.

So why did I golf so poorly? I have lots of excuses. First of all, I will not drill 120 holes ever again the night before a big tournament. My right hand was so shaky I could barely keep score and still I can hardly type. Stupid. Secondly, the course was completely unfamiliar to me, and no one in our foursome had ever even played there before, (not like that really mattered, it was pretty straightforward). Nerves play a big part when you're in a tournament with people you know, let alone total strangers, and lastly, the greens were like putting on asphalt. Fast doesn't describe it, plus there is much more undulation in the greens than I'm used to. So there.

The club house reminds me of Beach Grove, but BG is actually a little nicer looking. Essex looks like there added additions haphazardly. I've heard wonderful things about the woodwork in the dining rooms, and I wasn't impressed. It felt old without the charm. There are so many little rooms and hallways, then big rooms and big hallways, there is no intimacy. I like that when you walk into Sutton Creek, it's not a maze. You wave to the bartender. You can look around and see everyone... same with Pointe West, but not so much at BG either.

The locker rooms were not close to what I expected. Pointe West has them beat without a doubt, and if anyone says different, I'd have to ask if they've actually seen Pointe West's locker room in the last 2 years... that's how obvious it is.

The bag drop off area was congested (yes it was a tournament) and I had to haul out my own clubs in front of about 50 women. Nice. The parking lot is angled weird, and not conducive to any type of flow.

The patio area at SC kicks Essex's ass. If you venture to the balcony at SC you are amazed by the beauty. You can sit in the sun or shade, and out of the rain. There's the fire pit and the waterfall... so nice... Essex does have a ton of mature trees everywhere, but that's about it.

SC is way more challenging and especially interesting. We do have a f'ugly back shop located not discreetly off the 17th hole, and of course the Barn of Shame (the name seems to be catching on thankyouverymuch...) but in the scope of things Essex is a good 80 years older than Sutton.

A Fox Glen lover said to me today that she had no ambition to play Sutton Creek. 'It's a glorified Wildwood'. Wha? Huh? Well, how old are you? Why don't you play a course before you judge it? Are you kidding me? Yes, it's newer like WW, but, hello, we have par 5's and uh, no trailers! WW is little, tight and tough... but geez... I'd like to chat with the idiot that made that comparison. You stay at FG honey, you keep your flooded areas, dry fairways, 6 hour rounds with it's membership reaching a gazillion, I'll keep Sutton Creek and all it has to offer all to myself... thanks.

So, all in all, I'm glad I was able to play at Essex, but I appreciate Sutton Creek and its members even more now though... we definitely made the right decision for us.

I have felt like a slug the last few days for some unknown reason. I just feel exhausted and it's not like I have a physically demanding or mentally stressful job or anything... so I've been feeling a bit guilty about that, which probably doesn't help my slug, or sloth - like if you will feeling.

I haven't been eating the greatest lately.. it's not like I'm hitting BK every day or anything, but in the last 2 weeks, I've had fast nasty food probably 3 times, which is a lot for me. It's funny because occasionally I totally crave it, but after I eat it, I feel like a bag of poo.

Yesterday all I wanted to do was lie on the couch, and it was gorgeous outside! Luckily MomG called and we took the pooch to Point Pelee and had a nice 5 km walk... still felt like a slug last night...

Perhaps it has to do with my alcohol intake. It seems like in the last 2 weeks, I have had excessive amounts of alcohol.... let's do a quick recap....

- steady social drinking for 3 nights at the hospitality suite

- one marathon session of drinking at Seven Lakes, Papa Cheney's and ending at the suite

- Ladies 9 hole league, always a few cocktails...

- Golf with Billy, then watched the fight (one of the waitresses is a professional boxer, seriously, and had a match in New Mexico... she lost, barely, rats!) at SC on Friday

- Lion's Head golf tourney at Hide A Rock on Saturday, another marathon

Maybe when I'm feeling sluggish, it's actually alcohol withdrawals! That's a scary thought!

So, tonight? Ladies 9 hole league with cocktails... first a nap...

Kim and I were able to get out golfing 4 times last week in Tennessee. Once at Bear Trace Cumberland and 3 times at Lake Tansi. I really do like Bear Trace, but I prefer Tansi. It's much easier, perfect for a vacation. It's close to the house and it's fun just to kick back, hit some balls and have a few cocktails.

I golfed fairly well, keeping in mind that Tansi is a very easy course, my best was a 91 and a 93. I could have done much better, but oh well. I think I had a total of 4 birdies which is a high number for me.

Luckily we were paired up with good people too. Rarely I've had to play with a-holes, but this time we golfed with a nice couple from Georgia, two golfing ladies who travel together, and a scientist guy from Knoxville. He was pretty cool and we actually played with him twice at Tansi.

The weather was much better than predicted, so about half the clothes I brought remained untouched... what else is new? Maybe one day I'll learn...

Good God I had fun last night. It worked out that I was able to golf with Kiks and TOK. We played that crazy game again, and again Kiks didn't fare too well, but for some reason the stars were aligned and I golfed fairly well, (could have done much better too, but freakin' TOK shot a 3 above par 39... and this ain't no easy course!) and just had a pile of fun in general...

Very much looking forward to:

- The interactive culinary demonstration, wine pairing and winery tour on Friday night in honour of TOL's b-day.  

- Golfing this Thursday and Friday

- Leaving for TN next Friday

- The drive-in hopefully for Indiana Jones... wink wink.

- Eating (I'm hungry whatelseisnew)

Yesterday was the home opener fun golf scramble and fun it was! I had such a great time... We were rained out after 12 holes. My team was always joking around, we golfed well, (uh, not so much me, but Debbie A kicked ass...) there was a big table of crazy ladies fooling around, the boys had a good time, the drinks were flowing, (I was a good girl, for once...) the boys came back here and did manly things liked watched a fight, played poker and ordered pizza, the food at the course was amazing, and my face still hurts from laughing... I wish I remembered my camera!

Days like that are what life is about.

Yesterday I ended up taking the pooch on an Incredibly Long Walk. We walked into Cottam, down the Belle River Road to the 'secret' park. I swear to God that most of the residents of Cottam have no idea that this place even exists! It is hidden between two very small subdivisions, (like 25 houses in the one, and 100 houses in the other...). I've been there dozens of times and have seen people there maybe twice. Crazy. I think that we walked almost 7 kms, as we also strolled around the field that is next to the secret park. Very nice, but a little chilly!

So, about change... my 18 hole golf league, whereby I am the Very Important Co-Captain, (although I do very little, as it is run by a Very Organized Captain) starts on Friday... so when am I going to clean the house? Oh, I know, Thursdays! I realized this at about 8pm last night, and therefore had to go grocery shopping on a Wednesday! Crazy! I hope my OCD-ish ways can handle it!

Tonight I golf with TOK (weather permitting) then off to SuprT's although one of her kids has a health issue of which I'm unsure... so that may get scratched...

Saturday should be uber fun as it is the home opener tournament at Sutton Creek, and somehow I've managed to be on the team with the owners of the club and president. It's not what you think.. these people are so far from stuffy and self important it's unbelievable. It will be the funnest foursome ever! (Can you tell I've been with my 13 year old niece lately?)

So, more about change... I'm thinking here from BMW's blog now... I guess when some people are unhappy (whether they realize it or not) they attempt (however accurate or genuine) to manifest qualities within themselves that they admire in others... when making other people aware of these new found virtues, (after 8 glasses of wine...) incredibly enough, it comes off with quite the opposite of the desired effect... they look like hypocrites, show-offs, braggarts, followers, phonies, and completely insincere... it's quite sad really, especially when children have to endure the wrath of the parent's newly formed morality... ugh... some people!

Rereading my post on Monday regarding things that need to be done, I realize that I was in one of those 'Wah' moods where I didn't want to do anything, yet felt restless and bad for not accomplishing anything but making whine.

I actually ended up cleaning the car. Windex, paper towels, a vacuum, 2 cloths, Amour-all, Leather cleaner and conditioner, and a lint (dog hair) remover. It's done.

I also took the dog for a Fairly Big Walk. Because of Billy I've discovered a good walk to be had without getting in the car and driving... A little less than a kilometre away is a dirt road that connects our pretty busy road to the very busy by-pass, (oh and it's completely desolate service road which runs parallel). The road runs for just about 1.5 kms. Because this is the only dirt road that comes off the bypass, and it is flanked on each side by paved roads, it's deserted and I can let the pooch go. Very nice.

I cleaned out the AreoGarden. That was a very simple, quick job. I'll use it again in the fall when the fresh herb supply in the garden is dwindling (I've never spelled that word in my life..)

Yesterday I took poochy for a a little walk, played with my mom's dogs, as she is gone stateside again, did laundry, dishes, and made a metric tonne of mac and cheese. You can decide how healthy this dish is, when making it (it has to be worth my time) it takes 2 pounds of uncooked pasta, almost a pound of butter, 1 litre of milk, and 3, yes, 3 pounds of cheese. I can hear my arteries clogging and my cellulite growing exponentially...

Billy cut the grass for the first time this year last night, and it looks great!

Last night was the first night of the golf league and there was only 4 of us! Geez! It was a beautiful night, and thankfully I golfed okay... The Other Kim (TOK) brought this card game and it was so much fun! Mean! Vicious! And I got a free beer out of the deal.

So today? I'm just hanging out... Still a little too cool to a) fix the minor leak in the pond, b) plant the garden or c) plant the greenhouse. Life's good...

Ah... I've just been wanting to use that line for a few days now...

Pretty uneventful week-end planned... thankfully... tonight we are going to watch about 6 shows that we have DVR'd (2 Big Brothers, Survivor, Earl, Big Break) and eat HOME GROWN ASPARAGUS (I should take a picture before I cut them down...) and pork loin. The hot tub is probably still off limits due to recently completely stained deck (can I get a Woot woot?).

Tomorrow I have league registration (whereby I sit behind a table and attempt to appear helpful), then a little golf. Billy is going to cut the grass for the first time tomorrow (wow!). Might golf Sunday, not quite sure, and hopefully 'burgs and salads at MomG's on Sunday night.

Yep, hold onto your socks kids - it's crazy! Life's good
