Now I feel like I can relax and enjoy the rest of the day, as I actually accomplished somethings!
Yea me!
There are things to be done around here that I'm absolutely dreading, ignoring and procrastinating. I think that perhaps if I make a list and post it online, I'll be more likely to at least start on said list. Ugh... this is hard...
- Clean out the pond. Oh, the worst of the tasks on the list. The pond is so small, more appropriately called a 'puh', that's how tiny it is... however, it is full of leaves, guck, and frogs. Frogs who hate me, by the way. Frogs whose lives I feel compelled to save... that equates to me dumping out some of the stinky water, attempted to catch the elusive frogs, (put them in a super deep bucket, so they can't escape), and take them to a nearby pond where they can burrow into the mud and see next spring - as opposed to freezing into a solid form in our 'puh'. Oh the dread!
- Clean out the garden. It's so sad to do this. To me it represents the finality of my favorite season. It involves hauling multiple wheelbarrows of plants to the burning pile behind my mom's barns. Ugh.
- Put up fall decorations. I don't look forward to doing this, as we don't have very many and it looks cheap and sparse, but I feel like an autumn grinch if I don't at least make an attempt.
- Clean the b'junk off the windows. Y'know the vinyl seams of the windows? They always seem to collect a brown goo. This means busting out the toothbrush and practising patience.
- Switch out the summer clothes for the winter clothes. I don't think my golf shorts will make a reappearance again this season. Tank tops are no longer a necessity. This is also a depressing task. I have to make decisions on nice sweaters I have, but NEVER wear... I don't have a lot of clothes, so it's a little hard parting with the ones I do, even though I haven't worn some items in over 3 years...
- Bring the patio furniture and a few decorative items in, and clean out the garage. The garage is not too bad this year.... there are some things I should get rid of... stolen golf signs that we haven't displayed since the cottage days (2003), some gardening things we never use...
Ugh.
I especially find this accurate when cleaning.
Take for instance, windows. Your plan is to bust out and get them done - you are armed with a bottle of Windex (or environmentally sensitive alternative) and a roll of paper towels (or environmentally sensitive alternative, although one can recycle paper towels). You approach the first window and notice that:
- The screens have become a filter for all that has attempted to reside in your home, (bugs, webs, fluffy tree seeds, and dirt in general). Okay, so off go the screens. Now you must get a rag, a hose, or a large laundry tub (completely dependent on the size of said screen) to remove offensive grime and what nots.
- The trim or moulding is rather dusty upon closer inspection, so off to get the Swiffer duster, (or rag, you get the point).
- The little vinyl ledges of the windows have become a collection area for tiny dead bugs, and sticky brown matter. You now require hot water, some Mr. Clean Multi-purpose cleaner, (or environmentally friendly alternative), another rag or paper towels and a toothbrush.
- Now you may clean the windows.
Today, when the rug cleaner was not available (okay it was, sans upholestry attachment - useless!), I was vacuuming the edges of our bedroom, when I decided I should pull out both dressers. This involved moving other items: the TV, a plant, a huge mirror, etc.). Well, if I vacuumed behind the dressers, I have to vacuum behind the bedside table. While I am here I might was well flip the mattress and vacuum both sides. Don't be such a lazy ass LG - the sheet on the box spring hasn't been washed in forever - take it off! Should probably wash all the sheets too. Well, since I can see the floor under the bed, might as well vacuum under there, and hey - the bed's not that heavy with the mattresses pulled off - I should pull it away from the wall and vacuum the baseboards and behind the headboard. Is that a spider web in the corner? I guess I'll vacuum all the corners and ceiling joints - I guess I should wash the light fixture.... AaaAArrRRrrGggg!
Oh yeah - then I went to Leaminton and rented a carpet cleaner... needless to say - I'M BEAT!
Here is what is going on in the next few days and the next couple of weeks...
- 9 hole stuff (including last night) - there is quite a bit of things to be done on the 'pute
- 18 hole stuff (including today) - see above plus a little more
- Join Yahoo and Vegas Insider football pools. Prepare picks for Mogg pool as well
- Clean house - shouldn't be too bad this week
- Return items to CT
- Get groceries. Fresh fruit would be nice! Need (diet) dog food from the Vet too...
- Play golf with Kiks on Friday, then dinner at Lilly Kazilly's after, then over to Kiks' house
- Steak night, date night, great night on Saturday night. Yip. Gotta go to the butcher
- Play in golf tourney in Sarnia on Sunday. Have to meet the cool kids at 5:30 am
- Cheer for the BROWNS, and ignore Farve
- Steam clean the carpets. I'm serious this time
- Get TN stuff from one couple to another
- Make a few more CD's of Club C for random members
- Get gift for the treasurer... have to get on that one soon!
- Remember every minute of every day that life is gooooooood
A poem by LG
Powder, azure, baby
The colour is unimportant
As long as there isn't a cloud in it
Thank you, thank you very much.
In my recent and very conscious effort to soak up every last bit of summer, I have been reflective on what I've done so far...
- Went camping
- Attended a pool party
- Lounged by and swam in the pool
- Grew food in the garden
- Hung clothes outside to dry
- Worked in the yard
- Went for a walk just to see the night sky
- Went parking (haha, no, seriously though... I'll spare you the details)
- Watched lightning bugs and bats at night
- Golfed with friends and husband, had the best round of my life this year...
- Played on the beach
- Went for a walk in the woods and on nature paths
- Ate, drank, played cards and watched TV (only because it was a Red Wings play-off game) outside
- Barbecued every week
- Watched shooting stars or meteorites (I really can't tell the difference)
- Played fetch with the dogs, took the pooch for many walks
- Drank water from a hose (not the rain barrel hose - eww)
- Watched the frogs in the pond, although I'm sure they hate me
- Been sunburned, but not too badly
- Been so hot that I had to jump in the pool
- Drank 'Summer Sun' by Erie Shore (okay, several bottles...)
- Played in a golf tournament (where have you been?)
- Attended a outdoor cultural event
- Haven't worn 'shoes' since about May, just sandals or heels
- Enjoyed the smell of freshly cut grass
- Walked in a warm rain (okay, I was golfing, but still)
- Truly enjoyed every minute of a 90*+ day
- Read a book outside (more than one)
- Walked through a lazy river
- Went to the drive in
- Ate ice cream (I still think about how good black cherry ice cream is... mmm)
I have not yet, taken the pooch to the beach (aside from camping, or Point Pelee with MomG), played catch (although I hope to become good at throwing a football), ran through a sprinkler (I have been caught in one a few times, though - not the same). I haven't rode my bike (flat tires, lazy) or kayaked at Point Pelee - I really want to do that one summer.)
Life's good, isn't it?
I feel that I'm finally caught up now on the things that were piling up while I was away. The 9 hole and 18 hole scorecards, and all the stats are recorded for the last two weeks... (I had to make up a new spreadsheet as we're now halfway through the season...) I've emailed all the ladies in the 18 hole a detailed account of the upcoming tournament. I've emailed our Director of Golf a letter of questions and requests for the tournament. I've emailed the Treasurer, the vice captain, and just about every golf related person in my address book. Oh, and the house is clean and laundry is done.
It appears that we'll have about 60-65 women for the tournament... (apparently that's the number Beach Grove had last year, but nothing compared to 128 that Essex G&CC had this year...) I'm really happy with this number. Things are falling into place and I have lists of my lists to keep me organized. A few ladies had said to me, 'the Proshop can handle that' or 'why don't you ask someone to help you?'. Well... although the pro shop has run about 1000 X more tournaments than I have, I prefer to do it as I know I'll be careful and considerate with the draw and plus my paperwork is pretty. No plain old NYTimes font for me! As for asking for help... I have. I don't know how to do it any other way. Just like the time for 'suggestions' have past, so has the time to come forward and offer help. It's all good.
It's one of the first Saturdays in recent memory that William is still sleeping! No golf for him today. This evening we're going to see the new Harry Potter movie (yeah!) and out to dinner at The Keg (hells yeah!). Tomorrow we're golfing and then I'm meeting Kiks to go through the prize closet for the tournament.
Last night we purchased 1st row upper deck tickets for BROWNS v Chargers on December 6th. Yeah! It's an afternoon Sunday game so we'll stay Saturday and Sunday night in C-Land. Kiks and Jim are coming with us this year, so I imagine it will be stupid good time! I can't believe the pre-season starts in 3 weeks. Crazy! I'm so looking forward to this season and I fear that my NFL addiction will mature into a full fledged obsession. Bring it on!
The dog's stare is penetrating my brain and I'll have to take her for a walk soon... here are some pics from TN...
LG2 demonstrating her perfect chipping form. Notice the unbroken wrists...
Kiks for some reason didn't want her picture taken in the Snake Habitat...
This is taking way too long and Vox isn't accepting some of my files... later!
At times yesterday I was bursting with emotions - anger, defeat, frustration - I thought I wouldn't snap out of it, even though the catalyst(s) for these feelings was not something I could control - but I did. Remarkably I'm not bothered at all by the things that set me off yesterday. I wonder what the special formula is for letting go...
- Trying to understand other people's motivation (or stupidity)
- Swearing, pacing
- 2 conversations with friends
- Looking at the big picture
- Being organized
- Knowing I'm giving my all
I guess that's about it. Regardless, I'm at a good place now, and no longer raging. In fact I'm in quite a good mood. Yea for me!

Why? Because there are several hundred things I should be doing right now other than this...
- I should be paying bills - Woo hoo to my blonde-ness as I paid hydro twice last month, so our bill this month is only $6!
- I didn't clean the house yesterday and instead went golfing with LG2. Just nine holes, and I sucked pretty bad, but I'm not too worried about it. At least I made decent contact. For the most part.
- Yesterday's memorial thing at the KofC went better than expected. I only had to fake nice once - didn't notice any offensive behavior, and was pleased that certain people weren't there.
- I have cramps
- Coffee is good
- I am really procrastinating
- I have to still design and print up the flyers etc. for today's registration
- People on FB who don't know how to use 'to' and 'too' really annoy me. Especially when they post 8 things a day like bible scripture and political garbage. I am determined this week to discover how to ignore someone.
- Day 10 of continually singing the Love Boat theme. ARG!
- Looking forward to time with William tonight. The steaks are HUGE, and we have about 40 DVR'd shows to watch...
Life is good.
Vacation time is fast approaching... let's review some things I've accomplished getting ready to go...
- Tanning (although it is sooooo boring I want to tear my hair out!)
- House in Windsor is exactly at the point where it is perfect timing for me to go away
- New watch battery (no cell phones on vacation, therefore need a clock of some type)
- Washed running shoes. Holy crap! They're like new!
- Purchased ink for golf flyers
- Hair appointment tomorrow
- Purchased dye for my hair (what? I'm not a natural blonde anymore? Yes, it's true!)
Wha happen? Like my stadium coat, and fake Doc's btw? Oh... the 90's... The hair was real...
Anyway...
- I'm going to KT's tonight for advice on dresses, and well, let's be honest here... I'm probably going to borrow a few things...
- Golf flyers and registration sheets (for members and non) are completed. I just have to print them.
- Completed a thorough review of the Grady State of Finances.
- I have a pile of odds and ends ready to be packed. The issue is that Halia kind of freaks out when the suit cases are out. It's like she knows: 'Gym bags: good - we're going camping! Suit cases: bad - where the hell are they going and why am I not included!' Ah well...
Still have to:
- Make nail appointment for Thursday
- Pack, seriously from beginning to end
- Make multiple lists of things to pack and things to do
- Print golf flyers after reading them for the billionth time.
- Reschedule dentist appointments
- Call BB at SC regarding Masters golf on the 11th
- Confirm with SC that indeed the package from the district has not arrived
- Email AF regarding said package
- Dump spam from Billy and my online email (loveyougosfieldtel)
- Do yahoo golf team. I have forgotten enough already this season
- Water plants
- Bring indoor garden to my mom's house
- Decide exactly what to do regarding the Grady State of Finances
- Ask Dave to pick up our mail while we're away
- Buy chapstick.
- Dig up some batteries for the cameras and travel alarm clock
- Have Billy dye my hair, and cut his
Okay, now I'm realizing that I have a lot to do! Arg! It'll all be worth it! Yeah! I can't wait!
