I even like that country song, although I don't go to church or have a front porch to sit on...
- Football football football
- CBS News Sunday Morning. One of my favorite shows.
- FOX NFL Sunday. Love those guys. Although Bradshaw played for Pits (the bane of my existence) he still cracks me up. I like Michael Strahan too. They are so much better than the CBS coverage.
- It's perfectly acceptable to be very lazy on Sundays
- MomG often makes dinner
- America's Funniest Videos
- Can wear joggies and comfies all day and nobody cares
It doesn't appear to take much to make me happy.... just a lack of responsibility, a TV and cotton.
I check Facebook generally in the morning, and maybe once more in the afternoon just about everyday. I have been engaged on this social site for over a year now (after realizing I can avoid Crazy) and I have noticed a definitive genre of status updates.
- The Debbie Downer. This is the person who is always complaining. "Debbie Downer didn't get enough sleep, and will be dragging all day at work today". I have about 3 people in my list (people I have not seen since high school) who post everyday something depressing... "Debbie Downer hopes the rain holds off long enough to attend her favorite aunt's funeral'...
- The Always Ill. This is the person who is either always sick or their family is. I have about 3 people in my network who only post about their illnesses... 'Always Ill is at home with a cold, I hope I don't spread it to everyone.'
- Woe Is Me Worker Bee. This is the person who always complains or talks about work. "Woe Is Me Worker Bee has 7 more hours of computer work to do.' Hating Mondays, happy hump-day and TGIF are reoccurring themes with the Worker Bee.
- The Quoter. This is the person who always has positive and inspiring quotes as their status update. 'The Quoter just loves waking up in the morning, clapping her hands and saying "today is going to be a great day!"'
- Drama Queen. The Drama Queen always has something exciting going on... from out of control teenagers, a bad marriage, a crazy boss, multiple hospital visits... the Drama Queen's status updates could be a reality TV script, but the updates are often not completely informing, prompting questions from friends... 'The Drama Queen just got back from the hospital with her youngest daughter' followed by Drama Queen's Friend, 'OMG, what happened? I'm praying for you and your daughter.'
- The Texter. This is the person who can't write in complete coherent sentences and is not concerned about good spelling. 'The Texter isss totoly syched abt thisss wk-end w BFF Crissssy!!!'
- The Party Girl. This is the person that lives for the week-end, and sometimes has a mid-week escapade worthy of sharing on Facebook. 'The Party Girl is completely hungover, we rocked the block! Thanks Ladies for an awesome night out!'
- The Mom. The Mom is a Mom and nothing but a Mom on Facebook. Every updates revolves around their most perfect precious offspring. 'The Mom is so happy to spend the day with her baby girl. When she is napping I'm just going to stare at her and thank Jesus for this most perfect being'.
The Bible Thumper. They are the person that quotes the bible and prays a lot. 'The Bible Thumper is praying for a safe Hallowe'en for all the kids out there.'
The Attention Seeker. This person always has a status update that is incomplete, and is posted for the express purpose of receiving comments. 'The Attention Seeker just can't believe what happened today!' They are also known to post continually while on vacation, 'The Attention Seeker is sitting poolside... it's 80*F and the beer is cold'
So who am I on Facebook? Mostly I just post what I'm going... running errands, watching football, or going golfing. I think I'm a 'Polly Positive', or 'Hey, Look At What I'm Doing'
LG is running errands and can't wait for the week-end!
Physical exam: check!
House cleaned: check! (okay, almost)
William bringing home steaks and ribs: check!
Lots of wine available to consume at my leisure: check, check, check!
Furnace on: check! (can't deal with 62*F anymore!)
Multiple layers of clothes prepared for tomorrow's golf tourney: check!
Life is good: check!
Mellow - that was our week-end in a word.
We finally watched all the Heroes episodes we had on the DVR, a movie and some other shows. We lounged about and watched football, went to MomG's for Thanksgiving dinner (it was awesome), I read a book, started another and took the pooch for a nice walk at the 'secret park' in Cottam (about 2 minutes away from our house).
I have been to the 'secret park' (aka: Cottam Rotary Tot Park) a couple dozen times, and I've only seen other people there 4 times. It's such a gem, although the best part (aside from the lack of people) is not the park itself, it's the attached field and woods nearby - especially in the fall... it's quite pretty.
Here's the park...
So if you go there, don't get mad if you see my dog off leash...
Now football: We went to MomG's early as Billy noted that Global (Canadian channel, which we don't get with our US satellite) tends to show all Buffalo games... and oh yes! The BROWNS were on! Cleveland won. Wow - I'm so happy about that. Whew! I would hate to see them winless playing the Lions at Ford Field. Their schedule is pretty tough (save Lion's - we'll see in week 11) for the rest of the season...
There were a couple of victories that I did not see coming: The Benglas beating Baltimore - huh? I don't like Baltimore, but I really don't like Cincinasty, so that one hurt. The Suckhawks decimated Jacksonville and Denver beat the Patriots. 'Oh, Denver is so awesome, Denver is the best' WHATEVER! I don't see it! They beat Cinci (who I thought sucked btw), Oakland (who does suck), Cleveland (no comment), Dallas (apparently suck despite Romo and fancy stadium), and Arizona (that was the first week, and hardly counts), and on Sunday they beat the Pats (now I understand the 'Boston' thing), in overtime I should mention - hardly a blowout. Anyways - the point is, I don't like them, and they bother me.
I saw the first half of the Jets - Fins game, and I'm so happy that Miami won. Gruden was creepy (as per usual), and they couldn't get enough of talking about Braylon Edwards. UGH! Well good for you Braylon, you actually caught a ball... maybe if you did that in Cleveland you wouldn't have felt 'on the outs'. Remember 2007? When you were able to catch a ball? and the fine fans of the Browns loved you? Well, good luck in NYJ... if you drop for them, there will be no forgiveness, and you will be run out of the city and the sport, so put that under your pillow.
Wow, it's early for LG to get so riled...
Anyways, this week should be, well, mellow. Not too much going on - life is good.
It's been a little busy here lately...
Thursday:
I attended the General Meeting at Sutton Creek. Very informative. There are some great people at SC, and I had some good laughs (Marcello is convinced if they bring back the players that have passed away play time will increase dramatically... the goal should be living people joining the membership - brilliant).
Friday:
I didn't feel too hot after consuming one too many glasses of vino at the meeting, but was able to get the house sort of cleaned. Glo ball, which is my favorite golfing event of the year, was Friday night, and I spent the afternoon in bed with a migraine. Rats. Ah well.
Saturday:
Sunday Open On A Saturday - it was a good format pairing A and D players in a scramble format combining the scores of the B and C players, also playing a scramble. We came in fourth, and I won closest to the pin on #13 (amazing as I rarely hit that green - it was against the wind, so I had to use my driver to reach the back of the green - about 160 yards... that's pathetic, but oh well...). It was most fun.
Later that afternoon Kiks and Jim came over for a prime rib dinner, and were joined by a couple of guys from SC. Around 10pm the big event started - M vs. N - a Wii tennis battle for the ages. Nick tried to psych Billy out by wearing a Marino jersey, but Billy replied with his own jersey and hat. Nick won, but somehow the trophy is on our mantle - blocking my hole in one ball btw - I get no respect!
Some spectators:
The challenge:
The trophy:
Nick brought over a waitress from SC and her friend and Link. Us girls spent a little time in the hot tub, but it was warm outside, so we thought it wise to play Passout (25th anniversary edition, released in 1986 - meanwhile the two girls were born in 1989... how weird is that?) around 1am, and yes we were successful in making a young girl pass out. It was a proud moment... okay, not really, but fun nonetheless. I have never seen so many drinks spilled in one night. Jim was our booze runner and constantly at the ready with multiple towels. Good times.
Although we didn't get to bed until after 4am, the 'kids' were up around 8am looking for coffee, and William pulled himself from the comfort of our bed to comply (we grind - they would never have had success). I was feeling less than 100%, and spent most of the day in bed - Billy cleaned the house, thank God. I missed dinner at MomG's, but did a few things around the house, and watched a little football and some DVR'd shows.
Lessons:
- Don't drink so much
- Get some sleep
- Enjoy every sweet minute of life
I recently read somewhere that when a person replies 'busy' to the question, 'how have you been lately?' it is because they are trying to let you know that they are important.
Busy = important.
I answer 'busy' quite often, and perhaps I should rethink this. My version of busy is most likely very different that most people I know.
I'm not getting a toddler out of bed and off to daycare. I'm not rushing to a demanding job, having to complete a week's worth of tasks in a single day. I'm not rushing home to make dinner for the kids, run them to soccer and ballet, throwing in a load of laundry, and collapsing into bed only to realize I did not pack lunches for tomorrow, the dog didn't get fed, and I missed a PTA meeting.
That's not my kind of busy. Not even close, and yes, I occasionally get a discernible 'tone' as a result of my reply. I often think that people would like me to apologize for my life. I can't defend myself. What I need to tell the person who looks down on me (obviously not a close friend) is it's none of their GD business.
Even without a job, kids and stress in general, I manage to stay quite 'active' during the day. I always create or have little projects for myself. The other day I realized I spent all morning doing 'things' and not a single one of those 'things' was for me. I helped out my mom, the dogs, did my husband's laundry, scoring for the leagues. It's funny when you view your day like that, 'what did I do for myself?'
Hm. Interesting.
Today I will be doing a lot for myself. Life is good people.
It was another great week-end. Tons of fun, friends and of course good golf and a little too much alcohol.
This week I will be in front of the computer, compiling stats for the 9 hole league - I've already completed the 18 hole league. Pretty good life.
I didn't catch much football this week-end, and nary a highlight of the Cleveland game. I was in Sarnia for most of the day on Sunday, and I completely forgot about Monday Night Football until the 4th quarter of the first game. I went 10/16 which completely sucks. I'm pulling up the rear in Mr. Picklez yahoo pool - what else is new? I started off the same last year!
The weather is perfect tonight for the last night of regular play in the 9 hole league - tomorrow, a little cool for our 18 hole league 3 person 1-2-3 net Bramble. Should be fun. Yesterday was gorgeous, but I spent most of the afternoon in bed, as I felt so terrible. Nauseous, dizzy, stomach ache. Weird.
September is flying by, but life is good.
It was a great day! Kiks and I met at the golf course and the 4 boys played in front of us. We hooked up with Black Bob and he is seriously a great guy. I was playing 'okay' with the back start, and on 18 I was about 60 yards away and rolled it in for an eagle. Woo hoo - second this year. I played poopy on the front, the excessive amount of alcohol consumed was probably not helping - that usually doesn't hurt me, but that's my excuse... (although I hit the pin on #8, and it almost went in for a hole in one - close doesn't count!) and ended up shooting close to my handicap - it could have been better, but I took a 9 on the last hole. Rats.
Thank God I remembered how to golf - I'm playing in a scramble tournament in Sarnia tomorrow (serious stuff with min and max handicaps...)
Kiks and I then ventured to Lilly Kazilly's and had a fab dinner outside overlooking the marina and Peche Island. Fan freaking tastic I must say - then back to Jim and Kiks house to meet up with Billy, my brother and his girlfriend where we had drinks in their gorgeous back yard overlooking the pool and the Windsor Mountain.
It really felt like a perfect summer day, but in September.
Today I'm finishing up cleaning the house, maybe clean the car, work on some year end golf stuff, and prepare the captain for next year. I should schedule some time today to lay in the sun. Tonight - great night, date night, steak night with the husband. Awesome.
Life is good.
- Oh, and espn.com changed their pick and predictions board, so it now looks like none of the games have been played... but I know better... Go Browns!
Here is what is going on in the next few days and the next couple of weeks...
- 9 hole stuff (including last night) - there is quite a bit of things to be done on the 'pute
- 18 hole stuff (including today) - see above plus a little more
- Join Yahoo and Vegas Insider football pools. Prepare picks for Mogg pool as well
- Clean house - shouldn't be too bad this week
- Return items to CT
- Get groceries. Fresh fruit would be nice! Need (diet) dog food from the Vet too...
- Play golf with Kiks on Friday, then dinner at Lilly Kazilly's after, then over to Kiks' house
- Steak night, date night, great night on Saturday night. Yip. Gotta go to the butcher
- Play in golf tourney in Sarnia on Sunday. Have to meet the cool kids at 5:30 am
- Cheer for the BROWNS, and ignore Farve
- Steam clean the carpets. I'm serious this time
- Get TN stuff from one couple to another
- Make a few more CD's of Club C for random members
- Get gift for the treasurer... have to get on that one soon!
- Remember every minute of every day that life is gooooooood
A poem by LG
Powder, azure, baby
The colour is unimportant
As long as there isn't a cloud in it
Thank you, thank you very much.
In my recent and very conscious effort to soak up every last bit of summer, I have been reflective on what I've done so far...
- Went camping
- Attended a pool party
- Lounged by and swam in the pool
- Grew food in the garden
- Hung clothes outside to dry
- Worked in the yard
- Went for a walk just to see the night sky
- Went parking (haha, no, seriously though... I'll spare you the details)
- Watched lightning bugs and bats at night
- Golfed with friends and husband, had the best round of my life this year...
- Played on the beach
- Went for a walk in the woods and on nature paths
- Ate, drank, played cards and watched TV (only because it was a Red Wings play-off game) outside
- Barbecued every week
- Watched shooting stars or meteorites (I really can't tell the difference)
- Played fetch with the dogs, took the pooch for many walks
- Drank water from a hose (not the rain barrel hose - eww)
- Watched the frogs in the pond, although I'm sure they hate me
- Been sunburned, but not too badly
- Been so hot that I had to jump in the pool
- Drank 'Summer Sun' by Erie Shore (okay, several bottles...)
- Played in a golf tournament (where have you been?)
- Attended a outdoor cultural event
- Haven't worn 'shoes' since about May, just sandals or heels
- Enjoyed the smell of freshly cut grass
- Walked in a warm rain (okay, I was golfing, but still)
- Truly enjoyed every minute of a 90*+ day
- Read a book outside (more than one)
- Walked through a lazy river
- Went to the drive in
- Ate ice cream (I still think about how good black cherry ice cream is... mmm)
I have not yet, taken the pooch to the beach (aside from camping, or Point Pelee with MomG), played catch (although I hope to become good at throwing a football), ran through a sprinkler (I have been caught in one a few times, though - not the same). I haven't rode my bike (flat tires, lazy) or kayaked at Point Pelee - I really want to do that one summer.)
Life's good, isn't it?
