This week has flown by... I must have been busy because it was here, then gone - a good thing.
I accomplished some things at the house in Windsor and am now ready to move forward - a good thing. I felt really overwhelmed when I arrived there on Tuesday, but things are looking up and I'm excited about the project and progress again.
OMG - I still have to find a digital converter for my mom - she has satellite, but doesn't get in local channels - Boston is decidedly not local - even Chicago for weather purposes would be more useful - so she's like a converter for her little TV on the porch. Anyways, I think I've been to 10 places and they are all sold out. Damn people that waited until the last minute!
I did a lot of work for golf this week! I still have about 6 places to contact for donations for our tournament. I'd rather personally visit the businesses then call, so I might work that in - I'm better in person than on the phone... I'm grateful that someone stepped up to help me too... I also compiled a list of local courses, and their ladies league day and times so I can go to the course and hopefully speak to the captain about our tournament, and the fact that we've opened the tournament to non-RCGA members (means you don't need a handicap - just an estimate of one...) Even if only 2 people from each course enter our tournament, that's still 7 teams or 14 people - worth the effort I believe. I'll start that next week.
Today I have a tee time at 9:51... the 2nd time this year I'm scheduled to golf on a Saturday, but it rained (thank God) all last night. It looks like it's cleared out, but the dilemma is Billy has to either work today (and golf tomorrow with me, John and J's wife, it supposed to be sunny and 84*F, 12:30 tee time - have some drinks after, etc.) or work Sunday and golf today (with the guys that he normally golfs with on Sundays - he has a great time with them - I'm the tee time after him...) Because we plan on having some drinks tonight, watching Prison Break (yes, completely jumped the shark, but we've watched the series from the beginning, and we have all of last season's episodes still to watch...) making an awesome steak dinner, etc.... I'd rather golf tomorrow - but with William having to work, of course it's completely up to him... I wish he could do both...
Hmm... what else... I dragged the pooch to the vet yesterday - she blogged about the experience, check her out in my neighborhood.
Last night there was a fantastic light show around 9:30. It was nice to sit outside with William and watch the sky. It makes me excited for the fireworks next week! This week-end is going to be great - life's good.
Because that's how I roll...
I've been on the computer for hours today, getting things ready for the start of the 18 hole league tomorrow and to a much lesser extent, the 9 hole league tonight (I'm only a lowly scorekeeper - with a fax machine - hence). For the 18 hole league, I'm really trying to makes things very simple, easy and fun, for everyone including myself, but to get things to the point where they run smoothly for the rest of the season, it definitely requires effort and forethought. I think I'm ready to go. Woo to the hoo.
I have noticed recently Things that Piss Me Off and Things That Please LG. Let's review, shall we?
- I have really enjoyed the warm weather lately, then today - it was ripped away like a cruel joke from the Cold Miser.
- I had a great time walking with MomG, Halia, Sharon and little Ginger on the Greenway yesterday.
That was a brilliant idea. So peaceful. It's always interesting to see the crap people hid behind their sheds too.
- I like that I now have fingernails. I haven't indulged in a single keratin-protein snack in over two months. My hands actually look nice, but I HATE having dirt under them! I love to garden and work in the yard (not just mine - TBR's, MomM, MomG's, the house in Windsor,) so I'm now wearing plastic gloves beneath my gardening gloves, and once removed my hands are wrinkled and the nail polish is sloughing off. Lovely. To bite or not to bite?
- I love the Dairy Freeze. Remarkably, I've only eaten there once so far this year. Not a terribly awesome feat as it's only been open a month, and we were gone for 2 weeks of that month, but still! What I dislike is feeling that I'm risking my life and higher car insurance premiums by simply driving by on a nice day. I swear that place is getting busier every year. On Saturday the line for ice cream was 2-3 people wide and to the ROAD! People must believe that their ice cream magically protects them from on coming vehicles. I'm pretty sure ice cream doesn't have that power.
- I love to eat, but I hate having a fat doughy ass. Nice visual eh? No, there is no photo for that one...
I should get ready for golf tonight. Very exciting stuff.
Life is good!
So where has LG been? Well this week I've spent 3 very exhausting days at the house in Windsor. I decided that if I ever started a home renovation company - which I would never - I would call it 'FSH Renovations' - Fucking shit hole. Hahaha. It's actually been quite fun, but very tiring as I've filled 1.5 dumpsters with garbage, and have compiled STACKS of cardboard to recycle.
My ass is sore, as I'm not used to climbing up 10 stairs with a recycle box of garbage, down 5 stairs and back again - probably about 100 times yesterday. I'm not lifting much weight as I'm obviously very concerned about my back. Slow and steady wins the race - and fills the dumpster.
I'm starting to see the finish line, and until the kitchen is completed I really have only 3-4 days of work to do there, not including painting the front porch.
So that's that. I'll be back there on Monday, and for now I'm loving being at home.
Tomorrow is William's birthday and I can't believe that I'm going to be married to a 43 year old! Wow! He's golfing Saturday afternoon with friends, then I think getting together with a few guys to play poker. Sunday we're heading to MomG's in the afternoon for a birthday celebration. Tonight William is working late, then we're indulging in our week-end tradition of an awesome steak dinner, drinks, TV shows and hot tub. Perfect!
This morning I'm cleaning the house, running a few errands in Essex, then meeting KT for lunch. The poochy is already at MomG's as Billy went to his mom's to work out first thing this morning and took her with him, so I have an empty house to clean. Much easier to do without a pooch staring at me, following me room to room, and not to mention paw prints on the (soon to be) clean floor.
This week-end should be interesting as MomG is also babysitting a tiny poodle for a week. Halia and Ginger see each other all the time, but living together is another situation! She will have to share the bed with Halia and I don't think either spoiled dog is used to sharing anything. I'm sure MomG will have some good stories!
Life is so very good, and aside from a few extra elbees I'm carrying, I'm in a really good place, and have never been more content and happy with life!
Do I have anything to discuss aside from the weather? Yes.
Am I going to? No
It's freakin cold outside.
Just about everyday I take the pooch over to my mom's to take her two labs outside. It's more for my dog's benefit, as she is desperate to play, and it's the easiest way I can wear her out. I adorn myself in a winter coat, William's snowpants, hat, Cleveland Browns scarf, and sweet Cleveland Browns gloves. Although the gloves are uber awesome, they are usually soaking wet, resulting in freezing cold fingers within a few minutes after throwing raquet balls for the labs, (my dog cares not for fetch). Today I noticed, that although my little fingers were nearing frostbite type numbness, my gloves were dry. Why you may ask? Because it's so cold outside, the dog slobber and snowy ball wetness simply froze.
Poor poochy has nary a hair on her belly. It's bright pink and wet when we come in. MomG wants to get her a coat. I've never seen a 115lbs dog wearing a coat. Of course William put his foot down on that issue, and MomG has taken to driving Halia to the park as opposed to walking there in the cold. She still does however stop several times to free the snowballs that accumulate in Halia's paws... anyways...
It's 8*F currently. I don't even know what that is Celsius, (some Canadian I am...). When Billy went to work this morning, it was -8*F. Tonight wind chills are going to be -39*F. I can't imagine it feeling any colder than it is right now. Oh, and it's supposed to get worse. Oh, and it's supposed to snow more. We've had snow on the ground for well over a week now, and I'm over it's prettiness. I'm ready for 95*F, a blazing hot sun and high humidity... hmmm...
It appears that my pooch, Halia, who also has a blog on Vox, managed to get one of her pictures published in the 'Life' section of Vox.
Like she didn't already have a big enough ego...
We're back.. a day early. There was entirely too much rain... we did get really lucky though. It was beautiful when we walked in the Maitland, and the next day on the walking path, at the drive-in and during meal times. Whew! But seriously when it's thunder and lightening and HAILING it gets a little old. The poor pooch was not happy. She was either wet, in the trailer or having a marvelous time.
It's good to be back....
- because I like having dry and clean feet
- I'm not a big fan of campground showers or toilets
- I like my bedding to be soggy free
- as I enjoy cold beverages without worrying about the ice situation
Here are some pics...
Halia swimming and liking it!
Because of the rock bed, the water looks golden.
I'm sure it was some elusive mystical serpent that was frozen in time by an evil witch or warlock... I have to stop reading children's fantasy novels...
Proof I was camping, in Goderich, with my husband and dog.
At the drive in with Billy (Bert, Fred, Michael, William) Shelley and Johnny B.
On the Menesetung bridge. There were a ton of people fishing below.
There are a few wind farms north of Goderich. There are very cool and gentle looking.
Halia really wanted some of Billy's ice cream. At one time, her head was resting innocently on his shoulder.
Poor poochy was very tired on the way home. She fights it like a little kid... falling asleep while sitting up, then jerking awake... She gets that from Billy.
Today we are expecting the painters. Actually, they're late.... super. I'm not sure if I mentioned, but Billy thought it would be a good idea to not paint the big main room. Thank God!
Here are my reasons why hiring professionals are a good idea:
- 9 - 25 foot high ceilings, depending on where you are standing
- 9 - 25 foot high walls, depending on where you are standing
- Crazy big windows with essentially no way to get to them
Those are more than enough reasons, trust me!
So I cleared out the plants yesterday, there had to be over a dozen in that room, and because I don't know how they are painting the back wall (ladders, scaffolding, etc) I had to also clear out all things that were in the 'hole' or the wide open area in front of the fireplace.
The house looks naked and lonely. Plants really do make a difference as well as the 2 pictures we have hung in the big room. Here are some naked pictures of our house...
This picture is taken from the basement (it's a walkout) looking up the fireplace. It's a long way up...
It looks so naked and stark!
Even the kitchen looks bleak.
Halia has been wondering WTF for the last day. She gets anxious and weird when we're packing, so this has her in a state! She's been following me around and driving me crazy!
So, with regard to my list yesterday, I was able to cross trimming back the poinsettia. It looks totally violated and pathetic. That thing better bloom this next winter, or I'll be mad at having to look at that spindly plant for the next 6 months... I had a lot of plant maintenance yesterday, so that was good...
Today I'm going with MomG to pick up her new Ford Edge. That's exciting, and tonight I'm going out with a couple of girls for dinner. The conversations should be great!
Billy called the golf course and they should be open on April 1st... if not the course then the clubhouse. I hope the weather starts getting better! There is still some snow on the ground!
Anyway, life is good, and I'm looking forward to having the painting done and the house back to normal... also it looks really dirty when it's empty...
Wow, three days since my last post, time is certainly flying by. I have had time to write, just nothing much of interest to say, even now I'll keep it short and sweet...
- We went to SuprT's new house on Friday, it is beautiful! It was nice to see all the kids.
- We missed the projected 10 inches of snow by about 50 kms, and ended up with only about 2
- Detroit is reported the 5th snowiest winter on record. I forget the inches, but suffice to say: a lot.
- I was unfairly hung-over for much of yesterday. Billy's friend popped by for a 7 hour visit, and he brought his sweet pooch.
- TOL popped by, (literally, for like 10 minutes) with her puppy Schmeichel, (fun to say, not to type...) and they played, meanwhile Halia missed all the fun as she was at MomG's.
- The Easter Egg Hunt was a success. The ground was pretty much frozen so it wasn't too muddy, and there were more people there than 2 years ago, (it didn't happen last year). Halia won a dog bone and a light up leash, (which doesn't work well - rats! I could have been a HUGE box of milkbones... ) and Dave (on behalf of Lilly) won only a small bone which was pretty funny because looking at his prize card I was convinced that he was going to win the grand prize... haha, oh well, it's really not about the prizes...
- Here is a sub list of some dog breeds we saw at the walk:
- Bouvier (s) (huge!)
- Labs of all kinds
- Basenji (they are fairly rare...)
- Collies
- Bichon Frise
- Bullmastiff, (I wanted to squeeze his cheeks!)
- 2 Brittanys (gorgeous)
- Pug (love the pug)
- Welsh Terrier
- A sweet small rescue Greyhound
- One Visula
- Bulldog, not sure which kind...)
- Either a malamute or a huskie, I can't tell the difference... sorry DD
- 2 basset hounds
- 1 sweet beagle
- Boxer (s)
- A few chihuahuas
- Dogue de Bourdeaux
- Dachshund
- Doberman
- Newfoundland (HUGE!)
- German short haired pointer
- Poodles (a black one was trimmed for show with pink bunny ears...)
- A smattering of small terriers, one wearing a camo jacket, another a tutu...
- And of course, one gorgeous, if not slightly portly Rhodesian Ridgeback! (TOL reported seeing a fat rhody at PetSmart... so Halia is not alone... or the fattest...)
I'm sure there is about a dozen or so breeds I missed...
I'm not sure what is up today with my mom and the kids, easter egg hunt wise... I'm fairly certain that it will not be outside, as it is a sunny 18*F!! Brrr! Did you know that we golfed for the first time last year March 30th, then the 31st... that is less than a week away and there we haven't had 3 days in a row above freezing since I don't know when! Ahhh! I'm going crazy! I just want to golf! I want to be warm! I want to be outside! Arg!
Oh, so anyway, we're going to MomG's house today for turkey (yes!) because someone doesn't like ham, (wah, wah, wah), so it's turkey for dinner!
Well, life's good, (except the weather), and my hair is out of control due to late night hot tub hijinx!
