I'm still painting. The trim, entire basement ceiling and 1/2 the walls are done.
I must say that I hate painting white on white, and seeing as the paint store where Billy gets the big discount doesn't offer the blue or pink tint, I was SOL.
My fingers and hands are destroyed, (not that they ever where in good condition...) so dry, cracked and bleeding, and a hunk of drywall about 1/4 of inch in length is jammed under my fingernail and into my nail bed. BUT, it's all worth it, it's looking really good... (I'm earning my keep...) just don't look up, the ceiling really could use a second coat, but I refuse!
The only satisfying part of painting in my opinion is actually applying the new colour on the wall, and liking the new colour... the rest is just annoying.
I'll be done tomorrow afternoon, and ready to enjoy a week-end at home! A nice steak dinner and drinks on Saturday and our anniversary (6 years!) on Sunday (the moms are coming over for Chinese take-out).
Why is it that the best parts of the week-end seem to revolve around food? Perhaps it's the social aspect of it... perhaps it's the reason I need to drop 20lbs...
Okay I really am, but I have Seinfeld on the brain...
I'm painting the big room downstairs. It's really big, maybe 1000 sq ft? Big. It takes a lot of paint. I'll be done by Saturday afternoon, hopefully.
If you call, and I don't answer please consider the following:
- Can't hear the phone due to a really loud TV. It's the only thing that keeps my head from popping off while painting.
- I might have brought the dog next door
- I may be up a ladder
- I might not be able to find the phone
- I may have to run into town for more painting supplies, (okay you caught me, I may have run into town for Burger King... I still can't get my head around the idea that we have a McDonald's...)
- I'm lazy and not answering the phone 'cause I'm beat!
So those are my excuses, please excuse me...
What's the best thing about today?
I'd have to say the best thing about today is that we're having Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner at my mother-in-law's house tonight. What am I eight? I love KFC, and in the Winter we hardly ever eat out! Awesome!
Other good things about today are:
CBS New Sunday Morning - one of my favorite shows
Good coffee - of course
Although Billy is on call, he's not working right now
It's sunny outside
The house is still clean
I'm not hung over in the least and I slept pretty good last night
It could only be better if there was NFL football on TV... and the Browns were winning
So I've been thinking about stuff and things. We have a lot of things, certainly not as much as some people, but we have enough.
Here's a list of things that we have too much of, or things that we have, but don't use often enough to warrant a place in our house...
- Pens. I bet we have over 50 pens. I gave a bunch to my sister in law (teacher) but what can you do? I can't throw out perfectly good pens? Let me know if you need any...
- Odd kitchen appliances and gadgets. My mother in law watches and orders from infomercials. Yes she does! So we have a weird sandwich maker, the Ultimate Chopper/Blender/Change the oil in your car... we also have things that we use rarely, such as onion blossom maker (never been used... but I might use it one day...) a garlic press (I always chop my own...) corn on the cob holders. (pretty flimsy) well you get the point... I'll have to purge again once I feel the need to re-organize the kitchen.
- CD's. We have a box that we've hardly cracked since we moved here in late 2004 full of CD's. One day I might put them all on the computer then burn a disc or two (if I ever get an MP3 player, yes I'd download them...) but this is really low on my list of things to do, as I pretty much listen to only talk or sports, or news radio... hmm...
- Plants. I just realized that we have a lot of plants, actually we've had the same number for years now (except the Adults Only Huge Phallic Shaped Cacti) but they have all grown so much. No more plants here thanks... Oh, oh, I found a picture of the cactus from about a year ago.. it's larger now, oh yeah, I have a lot of pictures too....
- DVD's and video games. We rarely watch DVD's. We hardly play video games (especially PS2) and although we don't need to get rid of any, we really don't need any more.
- Barware. We are bordering on too much. We have a ton of glasses, shot glasses, coasters, whatever you name we have it.
- Billy's coats and jackets. Good Lord the man has kept every piece of outerwear he has worn since puberty! I bet we have close to 20. He refuses to part with any! Thank God for SpaceBags!
- Magazines. We have way too many magazines. I can't just toss them in the recycle, because I think someone might be able to use them. If you need gardening magazines or EGM or OPM let me know!
Well that's about it. Not too much I can or am willing to do about our excess stuff....
What lessons did you take when you were younger that you abandoned? Why did you stop?
Where to begin...
Tap dancing: Can you see me tap dancing? No, it wasn't a good fit...
Piano lessons: 10 years worth. I am glad that I was forced to do it, but quit because I was 17 and too cool
Tennis lessons: I was 12, my teacher was 16 and cute. He drove a green car, and promised to take me to the Freez for ice cream and didn't... bastard! I still like tennis, but it involves moving and breathing more than I'm used to.
Racquetball lessons: This resulted in a couple three years in a racquetball league. Racquetball courts in this area are about as plentiful as pink unicorns.
Golf lessons: I was about 11 and I think I played better then... Hm!
Does a math tutor in grade 10 count as lessons? I quit them because I passed with a sweet 51%, and fulfilled the compulsory...
I think that's about it...
Lately I've been thinking about stuff. No, really, I mean things, junk, collectibles, shit-knacks, ie:stuff!
I recently heard a Suze Orman interview, where she gives her best advice as, 'Don't buy unless you need it!'. Not 'unless you can afford it'.... unless you need it.... hmmm.
I was discussing this with a friend of mine who brought up the excellent idea of levels of need. Here's the conversation...
Me: 'I would really like a closet organizer, but I don't need one, everything I need to fit in there does. Things are just kind of piled in there and stacked on one another."
SBC: "You might not need the organizer in the way one needs food and shelter, but would it improve your quality of life?"
Me: Hm!
After some thought, I decided that yes it would improve my quality of life, as the slight unorganization of it all would no longer bug me, (as un-organization does...) however, I really don't need it, so I'm not going to buy it...
Another one of Suze's signature ideas is 'enough is enough' or when is 'enough - enough?'. The woman is a multi-multi- millionaire, and she ownes one pair of earrings. One. Pair . Of Earrings. She states that she could own more of course, but the one pair she has she likes so that is good enough for her... how cool is that? She says that the average person buys things they don't need to impress people they don't know, and to what end? Very true!
I think I'm going to ponder these ideas this week-end...
Yesterday I was searching the bottom of the purse I was using last week for change so that I could go to the store and buy my husband some Pepsi. The man likes a can or two at night.
Well, there was no change, but I did find a lottery ticket which tickled me pink.
As I walked downstairs to check it, my only thoughts were if I won I would buy everyone in our families a Ford Edge, I'd give some money to my mom's church, as its finances totally stress her out occasionally, and we'd do something with our friends, the something depending upon the size of the booty.
I checked the numbers and was ecstatic to discover we won $80. Not enough to buy much, but enough to buy Pepsi, some cheese and soup and a little left over.
It totally made my day... So did the altruistic thoughts cause our win when the numbers were drawn 4 days ago? Surely not, but there has to be something there... it's quite pathetic, but it inspires me to be a better person, and not just so we win the lottery... honest...

TORONTO - Astronomers predict a total lunar eclipse tonight that will be visible anywhere in Canada where the skies are clear.
The moon will appear when the Earth's shadow begins to travel across the lunar surface at 8:42 p.m. Eastern time.
When the moon is completely hidden around 10 p.m., it could appear to be blood red or bright orange and later change to dark brown.
Although the eclipse will last for three hours, the best of the lunar pyrotechnics will only be visible for about 50 minutes.
I'm there! Rather in the hot tub watching, hopefully it's clear tonight!
I'm back to painting... at this rate I should have the house done, (what I'm doing... we don't seem to discuss 'the wall' or 'the ceiling' as it stresses me out!) by the end of March. Just in time for golf season. Huh, imagine that!
We celebrated Family Day yesterday (whoot!) with a few new traditions, here's a list:
- Enchiladas for dinner
- Hot tub action
- A trip to Canadian Tire... it was open and I needed painter's tape...
- Things I can't (won't) discuss
Okay, okay, it was much like any other day, but Billy was really happy to have the day off. I would totally prefer to have an additional holiday in June as opposed to February, but hey, I a) don't work and therefore it doesn't really matter.... b) am not politially active or motivated enough to lobby for a June holiday and c) seeing as I don't work, and don't pay taxes, it's unlikely that I would be listened to at parliament regardless.... so anyway... I just thought I'd rather have a warm weather holiday than one where is it 22*F outside, (actually I think yesterday was a balmy 32*F)
Well, time to read a book... cheers!
List three things you'd buy with your last $20. One practical, one frivolous and one of your choosing.
Practical: Cheese and Pepsi: because we're almost out of both and I'm starting to panic
Frivolous: Lunch from Taco Bell and some new socks, striped socks: Because I'm crazy like that...
Choosing: Some picture frames so we can actually hang something on our walls: Hey! It had nothing to do with food.. amazing!
